The Actors Centre

The Poetry Group - Workshop and Audition Day

Performing poetry is the perfect way to develop your craft as an actor, improving your sight reading skills, your connection with verse texts, finding your own unique voice within the poem by engaging with language in its most brilliant and varied forms and extending the range of your voice as well as your imagination. There is a growing appetite for live verse and poetry in performance, and the Actors Centre is delighted to continue its exciting initiative to bring the wonderful diversity of our poetic heritage to life. The Poetry Group (Rhyme&Reason) is a company of actors, meeting on a regular basis to develop their skills in live reading and forming a professional ensemble that will tailor selections of work for special events, fundraisers and one-off gigs. The Group has recently performed at the Poetry Cafe, Tristan Bates Theatre, and Valentine and Halloween events. The day will be facilitated by Catherine Harvey, Peter Kenny and Richard Heap and you will be required to bring two copies of the following: a sonnet; a poem by Emily Dickinson; a further two poems of your own choice. There is no need to learn your poems. After the workshops a group of actors will be invited to join The Poetry Group. Price: £15
