The Actors Centre

The Action to the Word

WHAT IS IT? A two-day workshop for screen actors who wish to turn their hand to writing, and for curious screenwriters who wish to examine their craft afresh. Rather than isolate writing as a process separate from performance, the workshop is designed to explore the symbiotic relationship enjoyed by these two art forms and align them much more closely, as a means of unlocking character, emotion and structure. HOW WILL IT WORK? At the core of all cinema is the script. The workshop will begin by breaking down the essential elements of screenplay by examining them exclusively from a performance perspective. Through aligning the core goals of writing and performing, participants will then embark on creating their own scenes and workshopping them with the group, making essential discoveries that they will then be able to carry forward into their writing process. WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF IT? An alternative approach to the Joseph Campbell-inspired screenwriting manuals, these workshops look to demystify the writing process and root the dramatic form in the preoccupations of the performer. The goal is to empower the writer/performer to create scenes that are original, vital and essential. (Associate Members can participate in this workshop). Price: £60
