The Actors Centre

Stepping Into Character

WHAT IS IT? For actors, dancers and physical performers, this workshop is key in developing physicality in acting through mask. We will be using character masks (both full & half-masks) to discover new characters, develop improvisation and refine physical presence on stage. HOW WILL IT WORK? In a dynamic group setting, you will learn the fundamentals of mask work with Lecoq-based movement skills in articulation, action and reaction, and creation of space. Working with new improvisations, you will discover the secret to non-verbal and our many levels of expression. WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF IT? You will leave the session with a toolkit to access new characters and forms, along with a refined sense of body language and spatial awareness. You can take these tools beyond the mask to all aspects of performing for stage and screen, creating the subtle and silent X-factor that underpins phenomenal performance. Price: £30.
