The Actors Centre

Shakespeare's Verse and the Physical Voice

WHAT IS IT? A full day practical workshop actively engaging the body, breath and voice to connect with Shakespeare’s verse. HOW WILL IT WORK? For some actors Shakespeare’s verse can present challenges. The clues to play the story are all in the text - but are we too busy trying to ‘decode’ Shakespeare rather than simply ‘playing’ him the way we’re meant to? Have we forgotten that skill we had as children to be completely absorbed in the moment with a story? The body knows more than the mind. This workshop will show you how to passionately connect with Shakespeare’s verse using exercises to physically and vocally re-engage you with the world of play again. Please bring comfortable clothing to get physical in. This workshop will require all participants to engage in active physical exercise and is not recommended for those with physical injuries. Text/script will be provided. WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF IT? A practical integration of body, breath and voice to play with Shakespeare’s sonnets and speeches at their most dynamic and physical. Price: £30.
