The Actors Centre

Shakespeare - On Your Feet

WHAT IS IT? Shakespeare can be scary on the page. Our job as theatre makers is to resuscitate the text and bring life to the world of the play. This course will take one Shakespearean play - The Two Gentlemen of Verona, and provide you with the tools, technique and confidence to take full ownership of it. HOW WILL IT WORK? Actors will be taken through Caroline's process in the rehearsal room; an action based pyscho-physical approach, developed and informed by Stanislavski’s method of physical action. Her process is instinct and ensemble led and encourages actors to understand the world of the play through non-verbal behavioural exercises and active analysis. Actors will experience methods that build scenes and compositions for the stage, and understand principles of counterbalance, cause and effect building the environment of the play, and learn to justify every moment in a play. WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF IT? Come prepared to work physically. This is a practical workshop for actors who want to experience Shakespeare on their feet. Actors will be encouraged to think of themselves as creative partners with the text and the director, and contribute to the reimagining of the play for today. Please read The Two Gentlemen of Verona, bring a copy and learn one speech. Price: £75.

This workshop runs over 3 days
