Lotte trained as a yoga teacher six years after graduating from the Acting BA at RADA. She was struck by the parallels between her vocal training at RADA and the teachings of this ancient spiritual practice. Both hold in reverence the power of diaphragmatic breathing. Both require a physical practice that softens, opens and liberates the body, banishing residual tension. Both encourage a delight in the exploration of the present moment, and a belief that the breath is what anchors us there.
Yoga also offers a practice that brings us back to our bodies. It is no secret that the industry can be taxing for actors. The challenges to our mental health and sense of wellbeing are ubiquitous. Building a practice that centres us provides an inestimable tool to deal with the adversities we face, and the clarity to be able to hold our own under pressure. Tools to help us from the audition waiting room, to the centre of the Olivier stage. From wondering when our next pay cheque will be, to signing the contract.
Lotte continues to work in TV, Theatre and Voice Over, whilst teaching yoga and meditation.
