Castathon is an online fundraising event to help support The Actors Centre during the pandemic and the donations made through Castathon will allow The Actors Centre to continue supporting artists and creative talent during this time through our ongoing digital workshop programme. Castathon will give actors a fantastic opportunity to spend 15 minutes, one-on-one, with some of the UK's leading casting directors from theatre, TV and film who have generously donated their time and expertise to help you!

John has been working in casting since joining the National Theatre Casting Department as an assistant in 1989. After leaving the NT he worked for The Almeida, The Bush, Chichester Festival, English Touring Theatre, The Gate, Oxford Stage Company, The Royal Court and The Young Vic amongst others. This was followed by ten years with The RSC both as Deputy Head and then Head of Casting. working on all but one Shakespeare play, many classics and new writing. He is currently a member of the BBC's in-house drama casting team working on productions such as Holby City, Father Brown and The Coroner.
Carl has been one of London’s busiest casting directors for many years, working mainly in film and TV. Film credits include ‘Shadow of The Vampire with Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich, ‘The Wedding Date’ with Deborah Messing, Dermot Mulroney and Amy Adams, ‘Blood Creek’ with Michael Fassbender and directed by Joel Schumacher and Trevor Nunn’s all star ‘Twelfth Night’ Recent film includes ‘Son of God’ which was released by 20th Century Fox in 3000 cinemas in America in 2014.
Recent TV includes ‘The Bible’ series. Initially seen on US TV in 2013, it has become the most successful mini series of all time. You can find out more about Carls past and current projects by clicking on his website here.
Belinda Norcliffe Casting was established in 1993 and has developed an excellent reputation in the industry, working with many of the top directors and production companies in the UK, Europe and worldwide. Belinda is a member of the Casting Directors Guild and is particularly renowned as one of the top UK commercial casting directors. She has an extensive reel of commercials, short films, feature films and music videos and has received acclaim for much of her work, including award winning productions.
In addition to supplying established actors to the industry, Belinda specialises in the discovery of new talent. Together with her partner Matt Selby, is recognised for her valuable contribution to the industry, in this arena.
Aisha Bywaters has worked in casting since 2007, working with numerous acclaimed directors in film and TV. ... Since leaving her credits as a Casting Director include TV programmes Youngers, Cyberbully (starring Maisie Williams), The Watchmen (starring Stephen Graham) and Enterprice (written by and starring Kayode Ewumi).
Stuart is a freelance Casting Director. He was previously Head of Casting at ATG from 2012 to 2017. Major credits include Everybody's Talking About Jamie (Warp Films/Film 4), The Seagull (Jamie Lloyd Company/Playhouse Productions), Cyrano de Bergerac (Jamie Lloyd Company/Playhouse Productions) and & Juliet (Manchester Opera House/Shaftsbury Theatre).
Sarah was born and raised in Manchester, England, and began her career in film as assistant to producer Larry Franco on “Batman Begins”. She was asked to return to the film’s post-production as assistant to Emma Thomas (wife of director Christopher Nolan). Sarah moved immediately into casting, working with one of London’s premiere casting offices on Alfonso Cuaron’s “Children of Men”. She then spent the next few years, working with up and coming British filmmakers before turning her sights to also gaining experience in the fast-paced world of television casting. Sarah freelanced for the the BBC, working for top UK TV casting director Andy Morgan on some of the country’s highest rated series and mini-series (“Luther”, “Law & Order: UK”, “Inside Men”, etc. ). In 2013, she finally found her niche and is one of the UK’s most promising new generation of independent casting directors.
Amy Jackson started her casting career as full time assistant to Sasha Robertson, where she took a huge amount of responsibility in the busy commercials department, running and organising casting sessions for a wide variety of well-known and high-quality products and working with some hugely respected directors and producers. It was here that she found her love of casting and after a year, decided she wanted to go freelance and focus more on casting Film and TV projects. She has been fortunate enough to assist and work alongside well-established esteemed Casting Directors including Kate Rhodes James, Julie Harkin, Jina Jay, Kate Dowd, Gemma Sykes, Rachel Freck and Rachel Sheridan. Amy has also had experience casting various shorts and other projects independently as Casting Director. Amy is currently working as Casting Associate to Amy Hubbard.
Kate Plantin is a Casting Director of Film, Theatre and Television and has worked extensively for over twenty years, having previously worked in production at the BBC. Brought up in a theatrical family and as the daughter of two actors she has a deep understanding of how the industry works. Directors and producers often comment on the wonderful ability Kate has with actors to make them feel confident and comfortable in the audition situation which in turn encourages them to produce their best work. Kate takes great pleasure in finding new and upcoming talent along with casting established, named actors. These are all elements of casting that Kate has enjoyed over the long list of award winning productions she has cast. She is a member of the Casting Directors Guild of Great Britain & Ireland and a member of BAFTA.
Manuel Puro is the founder of Puro Casting, which is a full-service international casting agency, working across feature film, TV, computer games, music videos and short film. Major credits include Moon directed by Sam Rockwell, Planet of the Apes: The Last Frontier (video game) and The Lodgers directed by Brian O'Malley.
Phil trained as an actor at The Webber Douglas Academy and has worked in the theatre, film and TV industry for over thirty years. He was also an agent with ICM (now ITG) and has independently cast commercials for JWT, Great Guns and Ridley Scott Associates. His casting credits include – ‘The Singing Detective’; ‘Talking Heads’ (BBC TV); Marguerite Duras’ Days in the Trees with Corin Redgrave and Rachel Kempson (BBC Radio 4), People Are Living There, and The Chalk Garden with Constance Cummings (Kings Head); The Turn of the Screw (UK No 1 Tour); Alan Bennett’s ‘Enjoy’ (Watford, Palace Theatre); The Last Post with Gael Garcia Bernal (BAFTA nominated; Grand Prize – Berlin Film Festival), Romans 12:20 (Grand Jury Prize, ARPA Los Angeles), Deckies (Channel 4); ‘The Bill’ (Thames TV); The Killing of Sister George (Oldham Coliseum); ‘For Services Rendered’ (Chichester Festival Theatre/Patrick Garland); casting consultant on Leo Media Group’s Love & Virtue, and UK casting on the feature Italian Movies. He’s currently working on a UK/U.S. TV drama series with writer/exec prod, Neil LaBute; and the epic historical drama, Albion. Phil is also a casting consultant to the National Film & TV School, a guest tutor at Central Film School, voice/audition technique coach, a career marketing consultant at The Actors Centre, and has given casting seminars at RADA, Central, LAMDA, The Old Vic New Voices and Spotlight Stand-Up Drama. He also runs an ‘in demand’ actors' one-to-one and Skype/Zoom mentoring/career marketing consultancy service.
