Approaching Auditions for Musical Theatre and Beyond

WHAT IS IT? This one-day workshop is for anyone wanting to brush up on their audition technique or get an insider's view on effective auditioning. The emphasis won't just be on musical theatre but on any audition that may have a singing element to it. HOW WILL IT WORK? Participants will be invited to perform audition pieces and receive feedback from Mary and Nigel in a supportive and constructive environment. WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF IT? Mary and Nigel will give feedback on suitability/length of material, style and technique. Through the course of the day they will give an insight into the 'dos and don'ts' of auditioning, drawing on their vast experience across many different styles of theatre. Participant Price: £45. Mary Hammond

Widely experienced in all areas of the profession, Mary is interested in helping actors of all abilities. She has an eclectic teaching practice covering many genres, working regularly with performers from West End shows and regional theatre, in TV and the commercial pop industry. Nigel Lilley

Nigel Lilley studied at King's College London and the Royal Academy of Music. Theatre includes: Bend It Like Beckham (Phoenix), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Drury Lane) Anything Goes, My Fair Lady and Company (All Sheffield Crucible), Ragtime (Regents Park), The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (Curve and West End), Sweet Charity (Menier Chocolate Factory, West End), Spring Awakening (Lyric, Hammersmith, and Novello), La Cage aux Folles (Menier and West End), Piaf (Donmar), The Bacchae (NTS). He regularly collaborated with Victoria Wood including That Day We Sang (MIF, Royal Exchange, BBC), Victoria Wood's Christmas Special (BBC), Talent (Menier) and Acorn Antiques (UK tour). Nigel is co-author, alongside Mary Hammond, of the audition handbook Thank You, That’s All We Need For Today.
