Our new programme is here with guest curator, our Patron Joseph Millson!

This season we are delighted to welcome one of our fantastic Patrons, Joseph Millson, who will be bringing a range of new workshops to the Actors Centre led by exceptional actors, practitioners and theatre makers.

Joseph Millson is currently co-starring with Stockard Channing and Freema Agyeman in Apologia at the Trafalgar Studios. He is a hugely experienced stage and screen actor having played many leading roles at the National Theatre, The Royal Court, The RSC, The Old Vic, The Almeida, Hampstead Theatre, many regional theatres and many West End productions. He was a highly-acclaimed Macbeth at the Globe Theatre, a production that was subsequently filmed and released in cinemas worldwide.

Gecko: An Introduction to Gecko’s Style of Physical Theatre & Performance

Use breath to explore emotions in this highly physical workshop. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to experience Gecko’s unique style of physical theatre and performance. Artistic Director, Amit Lahav will give you an insight into the company’s creative approach, as well as tools and advice for performing and creating movement in your own practice.


Action and Impulse: Freedom and Specificity

Simon Trinder

14 July, 10:30 – 17:30, £30

Using international theatre director Mike Alfreds’ approach to text, RSC actor Simon Trinder’s workshop will help you create unbelievably truthful dialogue. You will use Alfred’s genuinely useful actioning and objectives on short dialogue and then move on to losing your self-awareness. Gain a thorough approach to make any scene your own.


Ten Steps to Learning an American Accent

Catherine Weate

5 September, 10:30 – 13:30, £18

Based on the 10-step accent programme The Real Accent App: USA this practical workshop will simplify the process of working on a General American accent, with hints and tips for New York Brooklyn and Mississippi. Catherine Weate will give you step-by-step instructions for learning an accent with detailed materials to work with.


Ten Steps to Learning Received Pronunciation

12 September, 10:30 – 13:30, £18

Focussing on the technical skills required for rehearsing characters with a contemporary Received Pronunciation accent (RP), Catherine Weate’s second workshop will use the 10-step programme from The Real Accent App: England. Practice RP in detail with hints and tips for working on different types of RP.


A Mixed Bag: The Secret Science of Staying Sane in any Rehearsal

3 September, 10:30 – 14:30, £20

Joseph Millson’s own practical workshop will explore and look at where fun and solutions can be found in unhappy and potentially unproductive rehearsal scenarios. With an opportunity for in depth Q&A this is an invaluable opportunity to pick the brains of an extraordinarily experienced actor. Gain pearls of wisdom for a long and happy career.


Getting to Grips with Shakespeare

If you find Shakespeare a bit intimidating here is a chance to face your fears in a supportive environment, try out speeches and improve your understanding and performance. Alexandra Gilbraeth will explore how to handle verse with ease and enable your character to shine through. Build confidence and take away speeches to develop for auditions.
