19 September 2019

We are delighted to announce that we will be partnering with THE OLD VIC 12 during the October – December workshop season to provide opportunities to develop skills in writing, movement, acting, producing and directing. Current members of THE OLD VIC 12 will lead innovative workshops spanning across genres and disciplines intended to spark inspiration as well as teach practical skills for the theatre industry. These workshops are available for both Actors and Industry Members.

Self-Penned Performance

Thursday 10 October: 18.00 - 21.00

Writing from personal experience can easily veer into dangerous territory as worst and self-indulgence at best. How do you even begin? This workshop will incorporate honest conversations, explorative questions, and exercises on writing yourself the perfect part.

Creating Space for Artists in Unsafe Spaces

Wednesday 6 November: 18.00 - 21.00

This workshop will examine ways in which we can create work that is representative of our communities and personal stories without compromising cultural and artistic values. The session explores pitching our big ideas and where best to pitch them in order to honor who we are as artists.

Inspiration: Creating Worlds and Characters

Friday 8 November: 10.30 - 13.30

This workshop will explore six imaginative steps you can use to help spark inspiration, begin to develop rich and layered characters, and establish a shared sense of the world of your play. Come away with a loose framework ready to be applied to any project.

What’s the Story?

Wednesday 20 November: 18.00 - 21.00

This practical workshop will help you unpack what a ‘story’ is and how to develop it within your plays. Learn techniques to help you avoid that feeling of dread when someone asks, “so what happens next!?”

From Idea to Reality

Wednesday 4 December: 18.00 - 20.00

This event will discuss what you need to start a theatre company and begin creating and producing your own work. We will provide a better understanding of how to translate a piece from idea from reality as well as how to discover the team of people you need to make it happen.

London Theatre Ecology: Where Do I and My Work Fit In?

Thursday 12 December: 18.00 - 21.00

There are about 230 different theatres in London. Where should you take your best ideas? Gain a greater understanding of London theatre venues, programming, financial structures, support, and scale in this practical workshop.

Finding Your Voice as a Director

Saturday 14 December: 10.30 - 13.30

A workshop designed for early-career directors who are looking for a space to reflect on and refocus their work. We will examine techniques and approaches for interpreting text derived from understanding your own identity and locating the unique story you want to tell.
