COVID-19 Update: The Actors Centre Closes With Immediate Effect

17 March 2020

In light of the increasing threat to public health due to the COVID-19 outbreak and following the advice of Society of London Theatres (SOLT) alongside the recommendations of government that UK theatres close, The Actors Centre will be closed with immediate effect for a period of two weeks. While we hope to re-open on 1 April, we will review this situation on a daily basis, in line with the appropriate advice, and make further announcements in due course.

All workshops and theatre performances will cease during this period, including Sticks and Stones which is currently running in our Tristan Bates Theatre, and the forthcoming productions of In Search of a White Identity, Dream of a King and all forthcoming Latin American Season productions. The safety of our members, audiences and workforce is paramount to us and we hope to reschedule as many of these performances and events as possible, but please bear with us as we navigate through this challenging and unprecedented time.

This has been a difficult and heart-breaking decision for our organisation. The Actors Centre is an unsubsidised charity which relies on our membership, workshops and theatre income to stay afloat and COVID-19 represents a very real threat to its future. Like many smaller unsubsidised organisations, this means that we will lose as-of-yet unquantifiable income, which remains essential for us to stay afloat. However, we must put safety first.

If you have purchased a space on one of our workshops or purchased a theatre ticket, we would humbly and kindly ask you to donate the cost of this to The Actors Centre. We are currently working on a donation facility which we hope will be live in the next couple of days. However, we understand that in these difficult times, this may not be possible for everyone and as such, we have amended our standard cancellation policy during this period. You can read more about it here. Our Front-of-House team will be in touch with everyone who has booked a workshop or theatre performance to discuss next steps.

Please note that during this closure, our revised office hours are 9.30am - 6pm, Monday - Friday.

Please stay tuned to The Actors Centre website and social media for further announcements and please stay safe. If you feel ill, you are encouraged to remain at home and visit or call 111 for advice. You can consult the Public Health England website for the latest and most current information and advice.
