Full Membership
Application for Full Membership of the Actors Centre is open to professional actors including (but not exclusively) members of Equity, registered graduates from NCDT-accredited acting courses, and foreign actors holding an Equity letter of exemption.
We recognise that there are many routes today into the acting profession. Therefore we consider each application for membership on its individual merits, taking into account training, Equity membership, professional acting work, and in most cases an assessment interview.
Full Membership entitles you to an unrivalled range of subsidised classes and workshops, taken by experienced directors and tutors who work actively in the industry.
You also are entitled to:
- use the Green Room Café Bar facilities
- take advantage of discounted, last-minute room hire
- sign in up to 4 guests
- discounts at associated businesses and services
- receive weekly e-newsletters about events at the Centre and in the Tristan Bates Theatre and industry news and opportunities
MEMBERSHIP FEES: £60.00 per year. £40.00 per six months. All fees include VAT. (£5.00 discount for Equity members’ first membership).
Associate Membership
Associate Membership is designed to allow members of related professions (eg directors, writers, producers) who are not actors to observe, but not participate in, selected classes.
We accept applications for Associate Membership from members of Equity or affiliated unions (eg Directors Guild, Writers Guild) or from anyone working in the industry who has been nominated by a member or a tutor. Applicants should write to the Membership Manager explaining why they wish to take up Associate Membership and supply a CV that demonstrates their professional credentials.
This membership entitles you to:
- use the Green Room Café Bar facilities
- get discounted, last-minute room hire
- sign in up to 4 guests
- receive weekly e-newsletters about events at the Centre and in the Tristan Bates Theatre and industry news and opportunities
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP FEES: £25.00 per year. All fees include VAT.
Intermediate Membership
After an assessment interview some applicants applying for Full Membership may be offered Intermediate Membership. It is offered to applicants whose training and/or experience is not yet as substantial as the majority of our members.
Please Note: You cannot apply for Intermediate Membership, it is only offered after an assessment interview.
Intermediate Membership is offered for an initial six-month period and entitles you to attend a range of classes targeted to your needs. During that time you will receive a tailored actor training programme, access to your ongoing feedback from the tutors, and one-to-one mentor meetings with the Membership team.
Towards the end of the six-month period your progress will be assessed to help us decide whether Full membership can be offered. The Membership team will examine your feedback and progress and have a discussion with you about upgrading to Full membership.
Intermediate membership also entitles you to:
- use the Green Room Café Bar facilities
- get discounted, last-minute room hire
- sign in up to 4 guests
- receive weekly e-newsletters about events at the Centre and in the Tristan Bates Theatre and industry news and opportunities
- receive advice and feedback about classes
INTERMEDIATE MEMBERSHIP FEES: £75.00 per six months. All fees include VAT.
Introductory Membership
Applicants who do not currently meet the requirements for Full or Intermediate Membership but who are Equity members will be offered lntroductory Membership. In this instance applicants will be advised to extend their training by taking Introduction to Acting Intensive at the Actors Centre. If you complete the Introduction to Acting Intensive you become an Introductory member free of charge. This entitles members to take our carefully tailored basic actor training courses and classes. However, Equity Members who wish to bypass this course and attend our Introduction classes only will have to pay a one-off membership fee of £30. Introductory Members are entitled to use the café and bar facilities, to use rooms, sign in guests or participate or observe in Introduction classes.

Reciprocal Membership with Actors Centre North
Current Actors Centre members on tour or working in the North of England can take advantage of classes run by the Actors Centre North for just a £5 admin fee for 3-month membership (normal 6-month membership is £14). Classes run in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Harrogate.

Guest Membership
Guest Membership is available to non-members to take individual or one-off classes and courses. It is offered to those recommended by individual tutors or by invitation from the Artistic Director, Head of Programming or the Membership Manager. For further information on guest membership contact the Membership Department.
Guest Membership Fees:
£5: One-to-one sessions and half day workshops.
£10: Full day workshops.
£17.50: Courses.
