Membership Types and Fees

For over 30 years actors, producers, writers and directors have flocked to become members of the Actors Centre and take advantage of the training and professional networking we offer. Membership is available to actors and to those working in the film, TV and creative industries, such as directors, writers and producers.
All members are entitled to use of the Actors Centre’s first-class facilities and rehearsal spaces. Our cafe/bar, with free wi-fi, is an excellent meeting spot and members receive great last minute rates on our rehearsal rooms.

All of our membership fees are inclusive of VAT.

Membership for Actors

We have 3 different types of membership for actors:

Full Membership
Intermediate Membership
Introductory Membership

Having different levels of membership means our tutors can tailor their content and teaching style to the right level of experience and skill. It also helps you to get the most out of our classes. You can be confident that the classes will help you to challenge yourself creatively, without leaving you overwhelmed. Plus you’ll be learning alongside like-minded individuals who can support and inspire you inside and outside of class.

While the Actors Centre recommends all actors should join Equity, you do not need to have Equity membership to apply for membership of the Actors Centre. Equity membership will entitle new Actors Centre members to a £10 class credit, so its another good reason to join.

Full Membership: £72 for 12 months, £48 for 6 months

For professional actors who have significant training and/or experience. Here at the Actors Centre we pride ourselves on the high calibre of our Full Members. We have a range of classes unrivalled anywhere in the world, due in part to the fact that tutors return again and again because they love working with actors who are as committed to developing their craft as our members are.

Intermediate Membership: £75 for six months

For professional actors whose training and/or experience may not yet be as substantial as the majority of our Full Members.

You can’t apply directly for Intermediate Membership, it will be offered for an initial six-month period after your assessment interview. During that time you’ll have access to a range of classes targeted to your needs and be given a suggested programme to enhance your skills in particular areas. You’ll also get ongoing feedback from our tutors. Towards the end of the six-month period your progress will be assessed to help us decide whether to offer you Full Membership.

Introductory Membership: £35 for 12 months

For those just starting out in their acting careers or who want to seriously explore their potential for becoming an actor.

Introductory Members have access to weekly scene classes and a regular variety of other classes designed to demystify different styles of acting, boost confidence and develop the actor’s core tools of voice and body.

To become an Introductory Member you must complete one of our intensive courses such as Introduction to Acting, Audition Bootcamp or Introduction to TV Presenting, which gives you complimentary Introductory Membership for 12 months following your course. Members of Equity are exempt from this and can apply directly for Introductory Membership.

the application process

Step 1

Download and complete the application form rtf / PDF stating whether you would like to apply for Full or Associate Membership.

Step 2

Send the application form back to us along with:

  • your CV or your Spotlight or Casting Call Pro link

  • proof of Equity membership (if applying for automatic Introductory membership)

Applicants for Associate Membership should also include a covering letter to the Membership Manager explaining why they would like to become a member.

Step 3

Wait for our call (or email). Don’t worry, it won’t be a long wait. We aim to reply to all applications for membership within 10 days.

When we reply we will do one of three things:

  • Inform you that your application for membership has been successful and take your payment details

  • Decline your application at this time, give you a brief account of our reasons and suggest steps to take before reapplying.

  • Invite you to come in for an assessment interview to decide whether to offer you membership and at what level

Why might I be asked to an assessment interview?

Some people’s level of training and professional experience is immediately apparent from their CVs. However, for the majority of our applicants we feel the fairest way to decide membership is by meeting them face to face and giving them an opportunity to show us what they can do.

This means that we are more accurately able to compare someone who has, for instance, no formal training but an impressive list of fringe experience with someone who may have trained at one of the less established drama schools but who has a limited professional CV.

When does the Actors Centre hold the interviews and who will be at them?

We hold auditions roughly every 10 days so generally you will be offered an audition slot within a month of your application date. The audition/interviews are conducted by someone from our Membership Department, usually accompanied by another industry professional such as an actor or director from our Board of trustees, a tutor from the centre or another appropriate member of our staff. If you have any access needs please let us know when scheduling your audition.

What will I have to do?

We ask applicants to prepare one monologue of roughly two minutes in length from either a film or play. After the monologue there is time for a short chat where we may ask you more about your training or experience and what you hope to get out of membership of the Centre. There is also a chance to ask us questions if you have any.

What happens next?

We will contact you within a week to let you know of our decision. After the assessment interview we may offer you Full Membership, Intermediate Membership and or suggest that you get more training or experience before reapplying.

If we decide that you aren’t ready for Full or Intermediate Membership we will also direct you to our hugely popular and successful Introductory strand of classes. Once you have completed one of our core Introductory courses, like Intro to Acting or Audition Bootcamp, you’ll be able to access a regular programme of classes designed to build your skills and confidence.

Recommend a Friend

The Actors Centre is always striving to strengthen and expand our community of professional actors. We're really proud of the classes we run here and the collaborations and friendships that started at the centre. To a large extent we rely on word of mouth and recommendations to publicise what we do.

If you enjoy your time at the centre, benefitted from your membership, and know talented people who might like to get involved, send them our way and ask them to quote your name and membership number on their application. If they successfully audition for membership, we'll put £15 class credit in your account!
