A Message to AC Members from Tristan bates theatre's Creative Producers Will Young and Ben Monks

Dear Members,

Hope this finds you well, and first – for those of you we’ve not yet met - we’d like to introduce ourselves as the new Creative Producers at the Tristan Bates Theatre, having taken over from Laura Kriefman. As you know, we’ve all been looking at a policy review over the past few months and developing a new business plan – which our new Chief Executive Louise Coles will be updating you about more fully from May. As part of this we’re pleased to now announce a new opportunity for subsidised and supported work by Members at the TBT.

For every quarterly season, will be offering one single-week slot to for applications from Members before considering work from external companies, available at £1,200 +VAT (instead of £1,400+VAT externally), including some production and marketing support. Of course, this doesn’t mean Members can’t apply for longer runs – but these slots are an ideal opportunity to try out a piece of work, develop producing skills with less risk, and provide a showcase for the industry.

If you are interested in submitting work to be programmed for these slots, please see the attached document with more information.

This opportunity is part of several new policies aimed at making the TBT better serve the Membership. Some of you have already taken up our half price day hire showcase rate; as well as the regular concession rate tickets available to Members – usually a discount of around 25%.

We’re also keen to meet more members – both to talk through applications for this scheme or other performances at the TBT, and to offer advice on producing your own work here and at other theatres. We are planning to hold an open session with the TBT Creative Producers for members at 6pm on Tuesday 8 May for you to ask questions about opportunities at the TBT and developing your own work towards production; please RSVP to tbt@actorscentre.co.uk if you’d like to attend.

We hope some of you will be able to make it along, and look forward to reading submissions.

All best,

Ben & Will.

P.S. On the subject of Member discounts on TBT tickets, do check out our new show In The Solitude of the Cotton Fields, a rare UK revival of a modern European masterpiece by French playwright Bernard-Marie Koltes, at the TBT from 17 April – 12 May. Members can by tickets for just £10(full price £14).
